July 18th. Back from an awesome family trip to Alaska – Bears, Whales, Beers and lots of fun and good times.
Today, I have returned to the county of my birth, Richland County in the North-Central heartland of Ohio. The trail is the “Richland B & O.” A true rails-to-trails, running north from Mansfield, thru Lexington & Bellville and terminating at the southern end in Butler.
18 plus miles of canopy to farm land and the charming trail hamlets. There are several small bridges and you are often riding along the Clear Fork branch of the Mohican River.
Need a quick fix, there is a bike shop on the trail in Lexington “YNOT” bike shop. The towns break up the trail and provide easy spot to grab a drink or take a short break.
The trail is well maintained, volunteer mowing was happening on my ride day (thumbs up!).
Several spots to access the trail all along the way.
A funny side note: As I started at the northern trail head in Mansfield at North Lake Park, I initial followed the “Bike Route” signs thinking that maybe the first couple of miles were on the road. Turns out, that was the city loop, which was 4-5 miles that brought me back to the park. I then found the actual B & O trail head, so I had a nice warm up. I am sure it has happened before and will again.
