August 7, 2019 Prairie Grass Trail Xenia-to-London (Part of the Ohio to Erie Trail)

August 7th, Xenia Station, one of Ohio’s major bike trail hubs.  Xenia has fully embraced the cycling community. What an awesome facility.

Several trails converge here including  the Little Miami Scenic Trail #3. It is 2 PM and over 90 degrees. It will be a 60 mile out-and-back to the London on the Prairie Grass Trail today. I have been thru this area several time while riding the Pan Ohio Hope Ride. On my Cannondale road bike today.

The trail is well maintained, along with well marked intersections. There are opportunities for stops in Cedarville, about 9 miles out and in South Charleston which is around 20 miles out.  The trail is basically dead flat and straight.  You are exposed more often than in a tree lined canopy. The trail passes thru 3 counties,  Greene, Clark & Madison. Had a bit of a tail wind on my way out today as my average speed over the 30 miles was 19mph+.

Arrived in London at almost exactly 30 miles. They have a nice trail head with pavilion and rest rooms. I rode into town about a 1/2 mile to grabs some fluids and food before turning around.

On my return trip, I came upon this gentleman. His name is Rod.

Rod

He was on a 9-day ride thru Ohio. Ride-Camp-Ride. Kind of a nomad in that he really didn’t have any specific destination in mind. Was headed toward Cincinnati, but wasn’t exactly sure after that. We rode together for about 10 miles and chatted about Ohio trails, etc.

Took advantage of the Devil’s Wind Brewery around the corner from the Xenia Station to “refuel” a bit.
