It was a cold (37 F), breezy day, but it was good to get outside and stretch the legs. Launched from Mt Vernon, riding North on the Kokosing Gap trail about 16 miles. Very, very flat asphalt. Cross a few cool iron bridges and nice views of the countryside. The trail takes you past Kenyon College in Gambier, the Stone Arch of Howard and ending in Danville. Nice little drive-thru for snacks or beverage refill just to your right as you leave the trail in Danville. The is a Subway eatery about 500 yards off the trail as well. Follow the OTET signs to the Mohican Valley Trail (1/4 mile) This is another basically flat section. About 4 miles out you will come to the Bridge of Dreams, a 370 ft covered bridge that spans the Mohican River. You can continue on about another mile where the trail transitions to the Holmes Co. Trail (at Rt 62). 7 miles to Glenmont. This was my turn around point today. Elevation going out S to N was less than 100 ft, it was a little more on the return trip but in essence, very little if any sense of climbing. I have traveled this trail many times and had posted a similar piece a few years ago. Fun, relaxing ride. Total trip today was 40 miles which took me a little under 2 1/2 hours.
I would also recommend trying the Heart of Ohio Trail that you pick up going south out of Mt Verson and takes you thru Centerburg and past the Ariel Foundation Park. Keep on riding! Bike Ohio 1000.
